Increase Your Water Awareness: World Water Day 2016

On Tuesday, March 22, we recognize the important role that water plays in the health of our planet and our bodies.

In Water Wars (South End Press, 2002) activist Vandana Shiva, PhD, writes:

“Although two-thirds of our planet is water, we face an acute water shortage. The water crisis is the most pervasive, most severe, and most invisible dimension of the ecological devastation of the earth. In 1998, 28 countries experienced water stress or scarcity. This number is expected to rise to 56 by 2025. Between 1990 and 2025 the number of people living in countries without adequate water is projected to rise from 131 million to 817 million. India is supposed to fall into the water stress category long before 2025.”

Jon Spayde continues in “Troubled Waters (2010):

“The U.S. Agency for International Development predicts that by 2025, one-third of all human beings will face serious and chronic water shortfalls. And according to the World Health Organization, contaminated water is implicated in an astounding 80 percent of all sickness and disease worldwide.”

Water safety isn’t just about our environment: It’s an essential building block for our health and future.

A new report shows that when you drink water, your brain works better, as we recently reported in “Smart Water“:  Subjects who guzzled about 2 cups of water before completing the tasks increased their reaction time by 14 percent. In addition, the water drinkers felt happier, less confused, and more relaxed.

In celebration of World Water Day this Tuesday, March 22, we encourage you in joining us to pause and reflect on your need for and use of water.
