According to a new fitness trends survey released today by the American College of Sports Medicine, Zumba — the ubiquitous Latin dance-inspired workout — may have “run [its] useful course.”
Poised to take its place as a top fitness trend of 2014 is high-intensity interval training, or HIIT.
HIIT, typically involving short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by brief rest periods and popularized by such training programs as CrossFit and P90X, appears for the first time on ACSM’s annual top 20 list in none other than the No. 1 spot.
Body-weight training, such as push-ups and pull-ups, strength training, and yoga are also expected to be “in” in 2014, the ACSM found.
