Sometimes my recipes run afield. Take today’s smoothie experiment. I was going for a mostly green beverage, but turned out a thick, semi-drinkable salad in a glass.
I mean, there’s a lot going on in here:
- carrot greens
- 1 kale leaf
- parsley
- fresh ginger
- chia seeds
- lemon
- orange
- coconut water
The color is beautiful, it was indeed flavorful, but as soon as I took a sip, I had a feeling that it wasn’t going to go down as smooth as I hoped. I managed to drink half of the mixture (quickly!), but struggled with the remainder. I put this mixture into my Nutribullet, but if I ran it through a juicer, I’m sure it would have been delicious. I would’ve lost a lot of fiber from the pulp left behind, but it would have been, most likely, more palatable.
Or maybe I could’ve tweaked this recipe to make it gel. Maybe an apple or a pear to sweeten and smooth? Maybe skip the carrot-top greens? More liquid?
Not every smoothie or juice comes out perfectly. But that’s OK. I’m willing to experiment.
What recipes have you botched but later remedied?
My biggest problem is that sometimes they are too tart. I fix this by adding some PB2 or even better, PB2 with dark chocolate. It is peanut butter without the oil. Good source of protein without the fat. My nutritionist recommended it.
Great tip, Dorothy! I haven’t tried PB2 before so I’ll look into it. Thanks!
