Heading to Moab, Utah, for some mountain biking and looking for places to shred?
If you want to get splashy on a hot day, take your bike to Onion Creek. Head 23 miles northeast of town along the Colorado River, and you’ll find a wonderful gravel-and-sand multiuse trail.
It’s a moderate-to-difficult ride physically — it’s about 22 miles out and back — but an easy ride technically. No matter how far you ride, splashing through the two dozen or so creek crossings makes it double the fun!
You’ll begin by pedaling past classic Moab desert rimrocks and towers. If you take the trail to the end, you’ll wind up in the ranch lands of Fisher Valley, where the views tend to be a little greener.

Moab Brand Trails: Cyclists of all abilities will enjoy these trails — such as Bar M, Circle O, Rockin’ A, and Bar B — which lie just north of town, adjacent to the highway and west of Arches National Park. For example, the easy Bar M loop is good for beginners and families with kids, while experts will be challenged by Deadman’s Ridge and the Killer B descent found on the Bar B loop.
The Klondike Bluffs Mountain Bike Trail System: These trails will turn the crank of those looking for a wide variety of riding options. It’s got modest climbs, but it isn’t technically difficult.
The Whole Enchilada: Looking for long, fast, and challenging descents with stunning views? This series of trails, which goes from atop the La Sal Mountains 26.5 miles down into Moab, has it all. You’ll need a vehicle to access the trail, or you can hop on a commercial shuttle to Geyser Pass.
