 Why We Like It

Bari Tessler-Linden, founder of the Conscious Bookkeeping MethodConscious Bookkeeping is unlike any finance-management system that we’ve encountered. Founded by financial therapist, coach and mommypreneur Bari Tessler Linden, MA (pictured at right), Conscious Bookkeeping doesn’t just focus on setting budgets and paying bills — which we all know can cause a lot of stress and anxiety. Instead, it combines the practical skills of financial literacy with an introspective, values-aligned money philosophy (which goes hand-in-hand with our goal of helping you live a more deeply satisfying life).

Conscious Bookkeeping Method’s goal is to help you uncover your past money habits (many that are likely unconscious) so you can develop a better relationship with money and have more confidence, peace of mind and success in the financial realm. It’s an excellent program for anyone who wants to more consciously manage their money, dreads the process of balancing a checkbook, wants to have better money conversations with their spouse, and so on. It provides them with an alternative that’s in line with their values and what inspires and motivates them on a daily basis.

How It Works

For more than 10 years, Tessler Linden taught the Conscious Bookkeeping principles to more than 2,600 people who have used them replace their old money stories and habits with refreshingly honest and reassuring ones. Now she offers the same methods, materials and practices as a self-guided, step-by-step home study course. It’s based on a six-month course that takes you through three doorways:

Financial Therapy: Uncover your hidden beliefs about money to see why you might horde it, spend it, or simply prefer to think about it as little as possible. By making it conscious, you make it truly your own.

Values-Based Bookkeeping: Track where your money is coming from and going to so you can take the mystery out of your finances and put yourself on a path of dealing with your money consciously. Rename your categories to match your values and intentions. For instance, Rent/Mortgage can become Home, Sanctuary or Love Shack.

Life Visioning: Begin to live your life in alignment with your life goals so your unconscious spending habits stop working against your larger life purpose.

The program includes:

  • 11 live audio classes (each over one hour)
  • Written transcriptions of the 11 audio classes
  • 150-plus page workbook
  • Access to the private online community forum, where Tessler Linden answers your questions
  • Bonus chapters

As you progress through each doorway in the program (see the syllabus here), you will create your own three-tier plan that you can experiment with and live into over the next year. For more details, go to www.baritessler.com/home-study-program.
